REINFORCED ENGINEERED STILE
Multiple layers of premium basswood are bonded together in a proprietary process to bolster the stability of the "stile" (the side rails of a shutter panel) - making for a robust and hearty support system for your shutter. This process creates a very strong and straight stile that will not warp or bow over time! |
MORTISE & TENNON JOINERY
The mortise & tenon joinery withstands "shear" and "racking" stress that occurs when operating shutter louvers & panels. This ensures years of shutter durability. This method is superior to the dowel joints used by almost every other manufacturer. It provides strength to the joints and looks beautiful! |
QUARTER SAWN LOUVERS
In quarter-sawn louvers, cuts are made parallel to the wood's medullary rays instead of across. This gives the wood remarkable strength and stability. This is the absolute best way to ensure against warping louvers that are common in lower quality shutters. These quarter-sawn louvers are available in 5 sizes! |
A FRAME TO SUIT ANY WINDOW
Whether it's a window, door, sidelights or patio door you would like plantation shutters on, custom framing allows your shutters to be installed with any type of window depth and with any type of trim. Some of our frames will even trim your windows for you. Others make sure we will not block your tilt-in windows. Norman Shutters has one of the largest frame selections available. NO STAPLE FAILURE
Norman product engineers have designed a system to prevent staple failure, the number one complaint of shutter owners. They start with a stainless steel staple which resists corrosion. These staples are longer than the industry standard providing more traction surface when embedded in the louver, and they finish it off with a glue that increases its grip when exposed to friction. The result is a failure-proof tilt rod attachment system. |
EXTENSIVE COLOR PALETTE
Each Norman shutter is finished with a multi-step furniture quality finish, With a large selection of deep, luxurious stains, and fresh, clean paint colors, we can match any desired finish, and even custom color when necessary. Extremely durable and robust, the coatings are resistant to cracking or chipping over time. They are satin smooth making them extremely easy to clean! STRONG EMBEDDED MAGNETS
No more unattractive, bulky, plastic magnets where the casings crack with use and UV exposure causes disintegration. Norman only uses strong, low-profile magnets recessed into the frame and stile at the back of your shutter panels. They provide a clean, unobstructed view, operate better, have a stronger hold and will not break with repeated use! For doors or high use areas they offer low profile bullet catch latches in place of magnets. |
WOOD CONDITIONING
Norman Shutters' trademarked drying technique dries the wood to emulate the environmental conditions of the location where the shutters will be installed. So here in the southeastern area of the US, the wood for our shutters is dried to optimum levels for the heat and humidity of our area. The practice reduces post installation shrinking & swelling. LOW-PROFILE HINGES
The difference is in the details! Norman shutters come with low-profile, smoothly operating hinges that color coordinate to your shutters or your personal design preference. Norman shutter hinges are available in 8 finishes: Silk White, Bisque, Pearl, Bright Brass, Antique Brass, Black, Nickle and Stainless Steel. Normandy and Sussex shutter styles are also available with invisible hinges. |
